I would like to introduce myself

My name is Toni Harris. I am a 41 year old single mom of two fabulous children, ages 11 and 13. I am an avid runner, boxer, fitness enthusiast and lover of life!

I am currently certified through The Canadian Society for Exercise Physiology as a personal Fitness trainer (CSEP-CPT) and through the National Academy of Sports Medicine as a Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM-CES). I am also a graduate of the Personal Fitness Trainer Program at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT).

In the past 7 years, I have found my way back into my boots, as a result of finally reconnecting my mind and body after many years of intensive therapy to work through and heal from my history of trauma, and figuring out how achieve and maintain a sustainable, and healthy lifestyle.

It has been a lifelong struggle for me. My health was starting to go downhill, standing 5’6″ and weighing in at 300 lbs, until 2012. It was then that I realized that I was slowly killing myself with my inactivity and destructive eating habits. I wasn’t modelling a healthy lifestyle for my children and I knew that if I didn’t make some major changes, that they were destined to grow up without a mother.

My shame and embarrassment prevented me from seeking help and over the following couple of years, through trial and error, I managed to lose a lot of weight. BUT…even after losing 165 lbs, I still didn’t know how to achieve my health and fitness goals in a self respecting, healthy way. I ended up following one fad diet and extreme exercise plan after another. My weight went up and down and I tortured myself with ridiculous amounts and intensities of exercise.

Eventually, I started to get discouraged and decided to educate myself on how exercise actually effects the body and how to maximize results without going to extremes in the gym or diet choices. I was desperate to find ways that I could eat delicious food that satisfied me and wouldn’t sabotage my hard work.  The information was endless and I had no clue about which sources were accurate and trustworthy.

So… I decided to become an accurate and trustworthy source of information myself. I enrolled in the Personal fitness trainer program at NAIT and spent two years eagerly soaking up as much knowledge as I could about exercise science, nutrition, and human behaviour.

Since graduation in 2016, I have been living what seems like a dream! I absolutely love my job as a personal fitness trainer and corrective exercise specialist. Every day and every client brings something new and exciting.
